THREE fires that destroyed three seperate sports pavilions within weeks of each other could be linked, Surrey Fire and Rescue has confirmed.
Earlier this morning a major blaze destroyed half the roof at the Old Reigatian RFC club on Geoffrey Knight Fields in Park Lane, Reigate.
Eight pumps and two water carriers attended the scene at about 3.30am this morning after reports of flames and smoke coming from the building.
It is believed the fire started at the back of the building before spreading to the roof.
The blaze has caused significant damage to the building.
Officers will be returning to the scene this afternoon with sniffer dogs as an investigation gets underway and police are currently reviewing CCTV footage.
A notice on the club website says: "There has been a fire at the clubhouse. The whole area is being treated as a crime scene; can we ask all members to stay AWAY until the Police and Fire service have done their job."
This latest incident follows two other fires within the last couple of weeks that damaged Horley Lawn Tennis Club and Reigate Bowls Pavilion.
One officer who attended the scene said the investigation was ongoing, adding: "It seems daft that three different sports pavilions have gone up in the space of a few weeks."
