TWO workers jumped into action after a discarded cigarette nearly caused a bin fire in Redhill town centre.
Smoke was drifting out of the rubbish receptacle outside Co-op in Station Road at around 2pm and two passing ladies stopped to investigate. Spotting a cigarette in the bin was setting light to receipts and shopping bags, one of the pair went to alert shop staff while the other emptied the contents of her water bottle into the bin.
Staff from the Co-op then fetched more water to ensure the danger had passed.
