TWO Olympic athletes have launched the Adidas Run Reigate Half Marathon.
British distance runner Ron Hill, 75, took to the streets to complete some of the route with race directors Dave Kelly and Chris Crabtree on April 26.
Later that morning, he was joined by fellow Olympian – 800 and 1500 metre runner Shireen Bailey, who coaches locally at Nutfield Priory Healthclub and Spa – at Simply Sports in Reigate High Street.
Both running veterans were there to inspire and motivate local people to sign up to the half marathon in September.
Sue Sergeant and Helen Dredge from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, one of the race's sponsors, also attended to help recruit more runners for September.
Sports giant Adidas and The Children's Trust will also be sponsoring the event, which has so far secured 2,000 participants.
The Adidas Run Reigate Half Marathon will start at 9am on September 21.
There is a £31 sign-up fee which goes towards funding the event, a race T-shirt and a medal for all finishers.
