STUDENTS at East Surrey College are getting hands-on experience with the building materials of the future.
Plumbing and heating company Pegler Yorkshire visited the college, in London Road, Redhill, to demonstrate Tectite flexible metal to students who have recently begun using it in class.
The college was one of the first in the country to incorporate the new material into its course, which offers the strength and performance of metal but the malleability and ease-of-use of plastic.
Michael Lewis, area sales manager for Pegler Yorkshire, said: "The students are our future market so it is important that they are familiar with the latest products.
"I was really impressed with the knowledge the level 1 and level 2 plumbing students had and the type of questions they were asking.
"They were of a very high calibre at an early stage of their training."
Staff from the company, which produces Tectite flexible metal, first met East Surrey College students at an exhibition last year.
The two parties hope by working together they will give students the basic skills and knowledge of the latest products which they will need to succeed in their chosen field.
