A MALE model was driving at almost three times the speed limit when he smashed his high-performance car into a Banstead house, a court heard. The 3.2 litre Audi Quattro hit the garden wall of a house in Higher Drive, crashed into a Land Rover on the driveway before embedding itself into the side of the house. Driver 21-year-old Storm Burger had to be cut out by firemen, Croydon Crown Court heard last Wednesday (16). The force of the collision on July 26 last year threw the vehicle's engine several metres away into the garden. The crash caused massive damage to the house running into many thousands of pounds. Thankfully the room that the car ploughed into was empty at the time of the collision, the court was told. Burger and a male passenger, who was also cut free by firefighters, were taken to hospital afterwards but neither was seriously injured. Talking to a police officer en route to hospital, Burger expressed concerns about his injuries because he was due to fly out to Ibiza the next day for a photoshoot with a top fashion designer. An accident investigator concluded that the Audi was travelling at around 80mph on a 30mph road. No mechanical defects to the vehicle were found, the court heard. Neighbours in Banstead reported hearing an engine roaring followed by a loud bang. Burger told police he regretted what had happened and expressed his sincere apologies. The defendant of Garendon Gardens, Morden, was convicted of dangerous driving, using a vehicle without insurance and driving not in accordance with a driving licence. He was ordered to pay a total of £3,300, or in default, to serve a period of six weeks' imprisonment.
