A BEAUTY salon owner suffered a break-in just three months after opening a business in "quiet" Dorking.
More than £300 in cash, plus ten top-of-the-range hair straighteners worth a total of £1,350, were stolen from Essensuals over the New Year break.
Raiders smashed the rear door of the High Street premises and ripped an alarm off a wall during the break-in, which occurred while the shop was closed on January 1 or 2.
A safe and cash till were forced open and then emptied before the intruders made their escape.
Owner Gemma Raif told the Advertiser the damage was discovered when staff arrived for work.
Speaking last Thursday morning, the 33-year-old said: "One of the girls came in this morning and the back door was ajar.
"She walked through the shop and noticed the rest of the damage.
"The door's broken and while the alarm may have been going off they have ripped it off and disconnected it.
"They've taken ten sets of GHDs [hair straighteners] which retail at £135 each and the safe's been broken into upstairs.
"There was one day's takings in there which was £260.
"They also took the till drawer out and it was smashed at the back of the shop.
"The £50 float was gone. The police have asked us not to touch anything."
She added: "I own Essensuals in Guildford and I've had that for 12 years. I've just recently bought this one. I was a bit miffed because I thought Dorking was a nicer area than that.
"I thought Guildford was a much more crime-ridden town than Dorking but I've never had any problems or break-ins at that shop. It does make you feel a bit uneasy."
Detective Constable James Cumming said: "I would also urge anyone who may have been offered these straighteners for sale to contact us."
Call police on 101.
