CLIFFORD GOUGH is Reigate Heath Golf Club's new head PGA professional
Aged 34, he was selected from more than 40 candidates to become the new head PGA professional at one of Surrey's favourite golf clubs.
Gough is opening his new pro shop at the club next Wednesday, and cannot wait to get started, as he explained: "I'm absolutely delighted to land the position and can't wait to get stuck in and develop the academy (beginners) and junior sections.
"As a father of two, Cari, five, and Freya, three, my approach is, the younger, the better."
On Saturdays throughout June, he is offering free taster sessions (9-10am, 2-3pm) for children aged six to 12, plus free coffees for the parents.
Clifford is also keen to get more ladies into the game.
"I'm offering taster sessions every Wednesday morning in June at £5 per person," he added.
"Bring a friend, and it's free for both, plus a coffee is included."
Gough began his career as a trainee at West Hill in 1999 before moving to Sutton Green in 2005.
He spent a year working for the television channel Setanta Golf, offering expert analysis using the latest technology before returning to West Hill in 2008 as head assistant.
He has coached county players and an English international through his junior coaching programmes. He holds two course records and finished 11th in the Welsh National PGA Championship last year.
He loves all sport and also does a bit of fly fishing in his spare time.
Reigate Heath have recently completed the second stage of their clubhouse re-development.
Club manager Scott Patience said: "The next stage of the clubhouse refurbishment is just part of the continued investment in the club and the course".
