A SEA of double yellow lines and other parking restrictions is lined up for the Tandridge district.
Fifty-seven roads are earmarked for new enforcement measures, to crack down on commuter and inconsiderate parking.
The plans aim to discourage drivers from parking on verges near junctions, as well as those who add to congestion around schools, and commuters who park in residential streets.
But affected residents and business people have divided emotions on the proposals from Surrey County Council.
Caterham has the lion's share of the restrictions, with 22 roads set to be affected.
Other areas facing changes are Oxted, Warlingham, Whyteleafe, Bletchingley, Lingfield and Dormansland. Parking limitations will throw greater pressure on car-choked Caterham, according to Gwyneth Fookes.
A grandmother-of-11, Mrs Fookes, 78, of Tupwood Lane, is a leading member of local history group the Bourne Society.
She said: "This residential road will be left with only six parking spaces.
"So much yellow lines is totally unnecessary.
It's very difficult for group members and also my relatives to park nearby.
"Caterham needs a public car park as the answer."
In nearby Commonwealth Road – notoriously parking-choked during the day – residents have to mount the kerb to get access along narrow parts of the street, because of commuter parking.
One resident, Mitchell Burkes, said: "I have mixed feelings. I could face losing one of my two parking spaces if new yellow lines are put in near my house.
"But on the other hand, double yellow lines on one of the narrowest parts of this road would help improve access."
Oxted county councillor Nick Skellett said it was hard to please everyone with its plans, but the council tried to find the best compromise.
He said double yellow lines in Hurst Green Road would produce more passing places.
And those planned for the junction of Woodhurst Lane and Woodland Rise should ease congestion there. Mr Skellett added that some of Oxted's chronic parking problems – particularly in Chichele Road and Station Approach – had been eased last year.
Consultation on the proposals continues until next Thursday (April 17).
Details of the plans can be viewed in the district's libraries or at Tandridge District Council's offices in Oxted, or online at www.surreycc.gov.uk/parking/tandridge
