A RECORD number of past and present college students have accomplished a gold standard.
Nineteen youngsters from Reigate College have completed their Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award in the past year.
While it is possible to complete the award during their two-year term, the majority of students finish it after they have left college.
Current and former students spanning nine years of life at the Castlefield Road college attended a presentation at Reigate Baptist Church on March 20.
Upper Sixth student Calvin Wilson received his Gold Award alongside former students Michael Andrews, Kayzia Ballantyne, Francesca Cooling, Henry Curtis and Rhys Kreuchen.
Francesca, who enrolled at the college in 2005, finished her award just before her 25th birthday.
"You don't really realise at the time, it's only after you finish that you discover what a massive commitment and amazing experience it's been," she said. "I feel very proud."
Assistant principal Chris Whelan said: "The college is extremely proud of the achievements of the students. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a tremendously formative experience and the college values it immensely."
Former Reigate School pupils and current Lower Sixth students Harvey Boothroyd and Anna Pullinger collected certificates for completing their Bronze Award and former Dunottar student Rosie Jones collected her Bronze and Silver Award certificates.
Now doing their Gold Award at Reigate College, the trio are preparing for an expedition in the Brecon Beacons this month.
