LATE-NIGHT events running until 2am can be held at a golf club, following a decision by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.

Members of the licensing sub-committee approved an application from Redhill and Reigate Golf Club to hold entertainment events until the early hours, and sell alcohol which can be consumed off the club premises.

The decision comes after initial objections to the plans from "two responsible authorities" were overcome following mediation and acceptable conditions agreed for the licence.

The licensing sub-committee's three-person panel – Councillor Steve Farrer, Councillor Bryn Truscott and Councillor Rachel Turner – took less than a minute to approve the licence, with the conditions, at a hearing at Reigate Town Hall on Monday.

Under the terms, laid out in documents submitted to the committee, the club, in Pendleton Road, Redhill, can sell alcohol and hold "regulated entertainment" events from 8am to 2am every day.

But terms, including the presence of stewards in the car park, limited lighting after 11pm and signs asking people to leave quietly were attached to the agreement.

Music emitting from the venue must be no more than "barely audible" at the boundary of any neighbouring home and no events at the club may be held in tents or marquees.
