A NEW girl band filmed their first music video on the roof of a local school on Sunday.

Euphoria, five girls from Bookham, Effingham, New Haw and Epsom, recorded the video at Manor House School to go with their new song Dynamite – written by pop star Chesney Hawkes.

For 17-year-old Bethany Cox, from Effingham, the filming was a trip down memory lane, as she went to the school before moving to Howard of Effingham to take her A-levels.

"It was very exciting," she said. "When you're a student you have to play by all the rules but when we were filming there we got to go on the roof and all the places I wasn't allowed when I was there."

Most of the girls met through local dance schools and the band formed 18 months ago. They have been recording songs and developing dance routines ever since.

Bethany said: "We're not afraid to be a bit cheeky but we're not completely outrageous.

"We all have very different personalties. There's a princess, a cutie one, a cheeky one, a party animal, and mummy-like sensible one. I'm the cheeky one."

They are managed by Heart FM DJ Toby Anstis and the video, which depicts the girls breaking back into school to have a party, was filmed by East 17 member Terry Coldwell.

The other band members are Georgia Davies and Lara Jackson, both 17 and from Bookham, Kiera Marner, 16, from New Haw, and Natasha Mould, 19, from Epsom.

The band have a showcase organised with several record labels in March, but they have to juggle band commitments with studies.

Lara, who is currently studying for her A-levels, said: "At the start it was quite hard because we obviously had loads of homework to do as well as coursework and we were getting together in the evenings to work out harmonies for songs and trying out routines for dances, not to mention exams.

"But it's such a hard market to get into.

"We all love performing and we'd love to be able to make it and be one of the top bands in the world. But the chances of it happening are very small, so you've got to have the grades to back you up so you've got the option to go to university."
