About 40 fire fighters tackled a big blaze at a house in Smallfield last night.
Flames leaped 30 feet into the air at one point as the roof of Old Barn Cottage in Broadbridge Lane was destroyed.
Fire crews are still there this morning, dampening down the embers.
A Horley fire fighter said: "The roof was completely alight by the time we arrived but we managed to contain the fire to one wing of the property."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
