A NARROW Reigate road will be added to a list of routes flagged to SatNav companies as inappropriate for lorries, after a string of complaints about HGVs getting stuck.

Last week, we highlighted the fury of residents living around Nutley Lane, in Reigate, after huge lorries became wedged at a crossroads as they tried to turn the narrow corner on two evenings in two months.

People living in Nutley Lane, Yorke Road and Beaufort Road told us a sign put up by highways authority Surrey County Council is inadequate.

The council failed to respond before we went to press, but last week spokeswoman Joy Ridley said in a statement: "We are aware of these problems and have recently installed signs in the area to direct HGVs to and from Albert Road North via the A25, A217, Somers Road and the northernmost part of Nutley Lane.

"Clearly they have to use local roads for access to homes and businesses, but we certainly want them to use more suitable roads otherwise.

"We monitor the use of roads countywide with the aim of persuading freight companies to keep HGVs on main roads as much as possible.

"As part of this, we will be telling the Ordnance Survey about roads where HGVs are causing problems so that this information can be passed on to the SatNav mapping companies, and Nutley Lane is now on this list."
