AN INJURY-TIME winner for Leatherhead robbed Whitstable Town of a precious point in their quest for Ryman One South safety on Thursday night.
Kev Terry's 93rd minute winner for play-off bound Leatherhead meant heartbreak for Nicky Southall's men, who are still languishing in 19th place.
The Tanners could have found themselves ahead just two minutes in when Ian Draycott rattled the up right with a rasping effort.
Top-scorer Tom Bradbrook headed straight at Whitstable's Luke Watkins as the home side started on the front foot.
But, it was Town who would take the lead with pretty much their first attack. Charlie Smith surged into the box and slotted past Deren Ibrahim.
The lead only lasted seven minutes though as Leatherhead's Tom Parkinson delivered a cross to the near post and Draycott was on hand to head in and it remained 1-1 at the break.
Leatherhead flew out of the traps in the second half and took the lead on 51 minutes, when on-loan Richard Avery fired home.
The Oystermen hauled themselves back into the game again when Macauley Murray fired home a sublime free kick on 72 minutes, his first goal for the club since joining from Ramsgate.
Ashley Miller nearly gave Whitstable the lead three minutes later when he cut a fantastic ball back across goal but no-one got on the end of it.
But, with the game seemingly heading for a draw, in the third minute of injury time Kev Terry was on hand to send the ball past Watkins to give Leatherhead the points.
The Tanners are back on the Kent coast this Saturday when they travel to struggling Herne Bay.
