Director of Cricket Alec Stewart says Surrey don't need to "roll out the red carpet" for Kevin Pietersen when he plays for the club. Pietersen's sacking by England has been the biggest talking point in the sport this winter, with the ECB saying a need for "a culture in which we can be confident he [Alistair Cook] will have the full support of all players, with everyone pulling in the same direction and able to trust each other" was behind the decision. But Stewart has insisted that Pietersen "fits nicely" into the dressing room at the Oval, and insists there is no special treatment afforded to England's all-time record run scorer. When asked about the buzz which will surround Pietersen's appearances, he said: "Yes [there is], to the outside world, because the media and public, but he's part of us now. "We love having KP available to us, he's a world class player and adds something to our team, but he just fits into our dressing room. "That's a good thing, it's a big thing for the media, a few more people may walk in through the gates to see him play and we want him to play as much as we can, but it's not "roll out the red carpet, here comes Kevin Pietersen". "Kevin fits into the Surrey dressing room and has done so very nicely in the years he's been with us." With skipper Graeme Smith, there could be times when the Surrey top order contains two batsmen with just shy of 17,500 Test match runs between them. And with an emphasis on younger players this year, Stewart - who himself scored 8,643 Test runs for England - believes that will be of huge benefit for the club. "It's learning from the senior players," he said. "Dominic Sibley scored 242 last year and spent six hours batting with Hashim Amla, those six hours are worth a year's experience, as silly as it sounds. "There's bags of experience, those two have been at the top for a number of years and have done great things, so it's good for the team and can only help."
