MERSTHAM continued their remarkable run of form by hammering hapless Whitstable Town 5-0 last night (Thursday).
Hayden Bird's side have only dropped two points in their last 12 games, an amazing run of form which has seen the Moatsiders climb from 20th to sixth in the Ryman League Division One South, just two points off the play-offs.
And in fairness, the Oystermen didn't come anywhere near ending the home side's terrific run of form.
Whitstable handed debuts to new signings Ashley Miller and Macauley Murray, but they were handed a real baptism of fire.
It took Merstham nearly half an hour to get going but they took the lead on 27 minutes when Dean Gunner slotted the ball past Luke Watkins.
Fabio Saraiva, who is back on loan at Merstham from Maidstone United, then burst into life, going close with a curling effort before netting Merstham's second, slotting home with ease past Watkins.
Ashley Miller had Town's best chance of the half just before the break when he slammed a cracking drive against the post.
Nicky Southall probably asked his Whitstable players to keep it tight at the start of the second half and not concede - but Merstham didn't take any notice.
A static defence was breached by Gunner who shot home to net score his second of the game just two minutes after half time.
Two minutes later, it was 4-0 as Saraiva's corner found Simon Cooper who diverted the ball home.
And Merstham rubbed salt in the wounds on 70 minutes when Taurean Roberts found himself free and lobbed the ball over Luke Watkins to round off a comprehensive win for the Moatsiders.
Merstham will now look to continue their amazing run of form which has also seen them score 12 goals in their last three games, conceding only one, when they travel to Tooting & Mitcham tomorrow (Saturday).
