REIGATE MP Crispin Blunt has visited the food bank at St Matthew's Church in Redhill.
He met various local agencies who are helping with the service, including the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Probation Service, to learn how it's run and to discuss how demand has increased recently.
In a Tweet after the meeting, Mr Blunt said: "Super visit to food bank at St Matthew's Redhill. Great team of volunteers led by Maureen James and Rev Andrew Cunnington. Great local service."
Since opening in April 2013, the Redhill food bank has fed more than 2,500 people.
The Reverend Andrew Cunnington said: "The food bank has met a huge need in our community and the extent of that is still unravelling.
"Our task is very much to provide a practical response to those who are struggling, but it also means that, with others, we should speak out when systems are unjust."
The service is run using a voucher system.
If a local agency decides a family is in need, they issue a voucher and call the food bank to arrange an appointment. It is usually open every weekday between noon and 2pm.
Donation bins can be found around Redhill town centre, or items can be left at St Matthew's Church, in Station Road.
