PARALYMPIC gold medallist Helena Lucas returned to her Caterham roots to reveal how she won sailing gold.
Helena, who was brought up in Greenwood Gardens, was born with no thumbs but said she had never considered herself disabled until one of her support team suggested she should compete in the London 2012 games.
She went on to win a gold medal in the 2.4 MR class becoming the first female winner of the male dominated event and Britain's first Paralympic sailing gold medallist. She was later appointed an MBE.
More than 50 people attended the talk in St John's Church hall in Clareville Road.
A retiring collection raised £200 for Caterham Overseas Aid Trust.
