FLAMMABLE liquid was poured through the letterbox of a house in a night-time attack.
The substance, believed by police to be paint thinner, was poured through the door of a house on Chipstead Lane, Lower Kingswood, between 7pm-8pm on March 6.
Paint thinner, such as white spirits, are highly flammable but officers have not suggested the incident was an attempted arson attack.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Ian Cherrington, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the offence and who saw anything suspicious to contact officers with information.
"Although one person has been arrested in connection with this offence we still need to piece together the events of that evening and therefore any information may prove vital."
A man in his 40s has been arrested and released on police bail until April 12 while the investigation continues.
