TRAINS in Caterham and Whyteleafe are suffering delays this morning (Tuesday, February 25th 2014) due to the ongoing problem of water pouring into Whyteleafe from the Surrey hills.
Delays of between 15 minutes and 20 minutes have been reported by Southern over the last few hours. This affects the Purley to Caterham section of the line and passengers using stations at Purley, Kenley, Whyteleafe, Whyteleafe South and Caterham.
At the weekend, work began on the "Woldingham Sausage" - an aqua dam designed to control the flow of the bourne from the Halliloo Valley into Whyteleafe, Kenley and Purley.
Locals say that a second bourne emanating in Marden Park, Woldingham, is causing waterfalls onto the Woldingham Road just down from Bug Hill.
One resident said: "In 60 years I've never seen a bourne coming out of Marden Park."
Another water course, the Coulsdon Bourne, has been leading to delays on the Redhill to Croydon line at Coulsdon South, Reedham, and yesterday was said to be within two inches of flooding the access to the southbound platform at Coulsdon South Station.
