THAMES FLOODS UPDATE: Tuesday February 25th 2014.
DISRUPTION is still being caused in the Thames area of Surrey and Middlesex as a result of the severe flooding earlier this month and continuing high groundwater levels. There are now less schools shut but some roads still remain closed. A yellow alert , the lowest of the Environment Agency's three flood warning alerts, remains in force between Datchet and Shepperton.
An Environment Agency statement issued yesterday (Monday) afternoon said: "Levels on the River Thames from Datchet to Shepperton Green are high but falling. This section covers Old Windsor, Wraysbury, Horton, Staines, Egham, Laleham and Chertsey. Levels are expected to continue falling over coming days but may be sensitive to further rainfall. Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely."
At Walton on Thames, the level of the Thames this morning (Tuesday) at 7am was 3.34m, down 5cm (2in) in the last 24 hours and is continuing to drop very slightly day by day.
Surrey had some rain overnight, amounting to more than 4mms in places. The Met Office has posted no severe weather warnings for the south east covering the next five days but showers are expected from time to time. Thursday could be wet.
