JAMIE MAXTED scored the only goal of the game as Faversham Town ended Chipstead's impressive recent run today (Saturday). The Chips went into the clash at High Road having won their last four matches in a row, making them the form side in Ryman League Division One South. However, Faversham were not in bad form themselves, having gone unbeaten since December 21, and having not lost away from home since October. But you would not have known it as both sides struggled to find a rhythm in a turgid first half that provided little action of note, except for a collision between goalkeeper and defender which saw Chipstead's Sean Preddie taken off on a stretcher after 16 minutes. However, the game sparked into life after the break when Maxted rose highest to meet an inswinging Darren Marsden free kick two minutes after the restart. And despite the goal being ruled out for offside initially, the referee, after consultation with his linesman, awarded the goal for the visitors after adjudging that the ball had been deflected into Maxted's path from the head of a defender. Faversham had chances to extend their lead on the break as Chipstead went in search of an equaliser, but substitute Brendon Cass was denied by two superb saves from Milan Stojsavljevic in the Chipstead goal. The Chips struggled to test Simon Overland at the other end as the visitors comfortably held on to return home to Kent with all three points.
