The world of football: Chelsea go top as Arsenal are thrashed by Liverpool

CHELSEA have moved to the top of the Premier League tonight (Saturday) after an Eden Hazard hat-trick saw them brush aside Newcastle 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. The Blues followed up their impressive 1-0 win at Manchester City on Monday with another victory at the Bridge, with Belgian midfielder Hazard scoring his first ever Premier League hat-trick to send Jose Mourinho's men top. Chelsea moved above Arsenal, who were thrashed 5-1 at Liverpool at lunchtime, with the Reds scoring four goals in the first 19 minutes of the match. Martin Skrtel and Raheem Sterling both scored twice, while Daniel Sturridge was also on target for Brendan Rodgers' side. Mikel Arteta scored the consolation for the Gunners from the penalty spot. Elsewhere, Manchester City dropped two points in the title race as they were held to a goalless draw at Norwich City. At the bottom of the table, there were vital wins for Crystal Palace, Hull and West Ham, against West Brom, Sunderland and Aston Villa respectively, while Southampton and Stoke played out a 2-2 draw at St Mary's.
