POLICE have appealed for help to trace three men who fled from the scene of a serious road crash this morning, leaving two fellow travellers seriously injured.
A white Vauxhall Combo van careered into a telegraph pole in Chipstead Way, Woodmansterne at around 5.30am. Police said members of the public reported that three occupants left the vehicle and fled from the scene on foot.
Police, firefighters and ambulance service crew attended the scene and two other occupants of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, were taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital in Tooting.
Both men suffered head injuries but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.
Chipstead Way was closed between the junctions with Manor Way and Court Hill while the injured men were treated and the scene was examined by collision investigators. The road was fully reopened at around 10am.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries as part of on-going efforts to trace the other occupants of the vehicle to ensure that they are safe and well and to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."
