Reigate has recorded it highest gust of the last 18 months according to Reigate Grammar School's weather station with reports of winds reaching speeds of 52mph.
The new comes as dozens of reports have been made of fallen trees all over the county with traffic and rail journeys being severely disrupted and some damage caused to homes.
RGS Weather also tweeted it was possible the extremely high winds could have constituted tornadic activity, although it has stated this is so far uncorroborated.
