As another day in the sporting world draws towards a close, we take look at the stories hitting the headlines, including the future of England captain Alastair Cook and an injury to Jose Mourinho. ANDY MURRAY will face former World number one Roger Federer in the Australian Open quarter-final. After beating Frenchman Stephane Robert in four sets this morning, last year's Wimbledon winner will face the four-time champion in a heavyweight quarter-final. The Swiss player breezed past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets to set up the clash, which will take place on Wednesday. It will be Murray's fifth successive quarter-final appearance at Melbourne Park, and a repeat of last year's semi-final, which Murray won. Murray said it would be a special match, while it should provide the first real test for the Scot in the first Grand Slam of 2014, having only recently returned from a back injury. Elsewhere in the world of sport, Essex and England all-rounder Ravi Bopara has backed his team-mate Alastair Cook to continue as England cricket captain. Cook's position has come under scrutiny following England's dismal performances in Australia, having lost the recent Ashes series down under 5-0. England have also lost the first three One Day internationals, with Cook said to be considering his position as captain in the one-day format. But Bopara has come out in support of his team-mate, adding that he still believes Cook is England's best player and should continue in both the one day and Test formats. In football, Fifa presidential candidate Jerome Champagne has suggested the introduction of orange cards that would allow referees to send players to a sin bin. The Frenchman, 55, included the suggestion as part of his bid to succeed Sepp Blatter as the world governing body's president. His other proposals include punishing teams when players question officials and quotas for foreign players. The presidential election will take place in Zurich in June next year. Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has today undergone a minor arthroscopic procedure on a long-standing elbow complaint. But don't worry Blues fans, he will be returning to work tomorrow (Tuesday).
