TWO men have been remanded in custody following an alleged attack in the toilets of a Redhill snooker club.
William Bridger, 19, of Raleigh Drive, Smallfield, and George Smith, 22, of Tylers Close, Godstone, appeared before magistrates in Redhill on Monday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, after a man was found with head injuries at Q's Entertainment in Queensway in the early hours of Saturday.
Prosecutor Fahmina Islam told the court police were called to the club at 1.22am after Brian Phillips was found unconscious and bleeding on the floor of the club toilets by a customer. He was taken to East Surrey Hospital with a fractured eye socket and possible fractured cheekbone, plus bruising and swelling to his head, said Miss Islam.
Bridger, a father of one, and Smith, a dad-of-two, are also both accused of punching another man at the club, Jonathan Baker.
Bridger is additionally charged with assaulting Mr Baker's sister Jessica Boxhall, by pushing her, and of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards PC Andrew Adams and Wavaney Scarlett, causing them to fear violence would be used against them.
Neither defendant made a plea, speaking only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth.
Chairman of the bench Stephen Cutler told the pair they would be remanded in custody until January 30, when they will appear at Guildford Crown Court.
