STEVE Parish says Crystal Palace will not pay over the odds to bring in new players this month.
A number of players are currently being linked to Selhurst Park as you would expect, but the Eagles chairman has revealed the club have not been in talks with anyone just yet.
"We're going to try and do things in January [to strengthen] but there is no point doing things for the sake of it," Parish said.
"If they are the right deals and they move us forward then we'll do them. We have made the odd enquiry but we're not going to overpay people.
"We're not a football club that takes ridiculous risks. We have got to get the right deals for Crystal Palace.
"If they're about, we'll try and do them. If not, we won't. I would prefer players who the manager thinks will make us better.
"I've got a manager, scouting department and sporting director to identify players who will make us better and it's my job to make the deals happen."
And while assessing the Eagles' season so far, Parish hinted one particular area on the pitch where they could strengthen in the transfer window.
"I think we've done all right and about par of where we should be so far," he said. "We're not out of the water but everyone is working hard.
"We lack a bit at the top of the pitch sometimes and we're not taking our chances, which would have won us more games.
"We played so well at Manchester City and got nothing, that's more worrying to me.
"We have still got to get points, we're still in the bottom three – there's a long way to go."
Meanwhile, Parish has revealed the reasoning behind Stephen Dobbie's return from a loan spell at Blackpool.
The Tangerines initially wanted to keep the Scotsman at Bloomfield Road but instead scuppered the deal.
"They said they wanted to keep him and we agreed, then they said they didn't," said Parish.
"His family are back up north and I think there are one or two things in the offing for him.
"I think he wants to play regular football and a couple of clubs have come in for him."
Former Palace boss Ian Holloway took over at south London rivals Millwall earlier this week, and Parish, although admitting he hasn't spoken to the 50-year-old, believes the fans should forget about any bad feeling behind him joining the Lions.
He said: "I wish Ian all the best there – but I haven't spoken to him [since he left].
"It's a job – what do people want him to do? If you were a professional chocolatier and you worked for Nestlé and then Cadbury came in for you, are you not going to work for Cadbury then?
"He doesn't owe us anything."
And on Monday, Wilfried Zaha's chances of coming back to SE25 were quashed by Manchester United, but Parish hinted they may go back in for the Academy graduate again.
"I asked to be kept abreast of the situation and that was the last I heard of Manchester United's thinking, that they wanted to keep him out of London," he said. "What can we do? But you never know, it might change."
