MORE than 80 people attended a fundraiser to hear about the work of the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court.
Captain Faye Taylor, officer in charge of the centre's spinal rehabilitation team, was on hand at the Reigate Manor Hotel to talk about the 24-hour care and support given to injured soldiers.
After the talk, prizes donated by local businesses were used in an auction and raffle to raise money for the rehab centre.
The event was held at the monthly meeting of the Borough of Reigate 41 Club, whose chairman Alan Reed visited the centre earlier this month to present a cheque for £1,000 to Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Meredith, second in command at Headley Court.
Event organiser Michael Brown said: "Headley Court is an amazing institution little known or fully understood by most of us, which provides 24-hour care, help and support in the rehabilitation of those injured serving our country. During the last five years, 509 patients have been treated at Headley Court for injuries received in Afghanistan.
"Furthermore, in this year alone up to the end of October more than 100 inpatients at Headley Court have been treated for the first time by the complex trauma team.
"These are profound, thought-provoking statistics."
