SINCE they will be representing the county, we asked the Surrey Hills gang about the issues which are important to the area.

Should we be building on green spaces?

It is a subject which property developer Sam knows very well.

"I think there should be rules about it," he said. "You shouldn't just be able to build some stupid 12,000-ft mansion in the middle of a park, it would be ridiculous.

"But if you were going to build a character house and something that would fit in well in the countryside I think you should be allowed to do it.

"There are people who own land and have houses but they can't make the houses any bigger because part of their garden is green belt.

"I don't think that's right."

Alan added: "I've got four acres of land in Cobham and I want to build on it, so that's how I feel about it."

Benny believes measures must be taken to ease the housing crisis.

"If there is an area of uninhabited land which can be used to benefit more new first-time buyers or people who are currently in a position where they can't afford to live, they deserve an opportunity to," he said.

"That doesn't matter if it's out of Surrey or in."

Holly added: "Surrey has got a lot of protected land."

But Talia has an eye on preserving the county's rural surrounds.

She said: "It kind of annoys me when you see this space and you squeeze four houses on to it. I like the greenery, personally."
