CONTINUOUS heavy rain over the weekend ensured Christmas shoppers in Mole Valley had a soggy time buying last-minute presents.
Surrey escaped the disastrous floods which affected the south west of England, but nevertheless hundreds of acres of farmland were under water after the River Mole burst its banks at Leigh and Betchworth.
Meadows were strewn with debris, including plastic bottles washed down stream by the fast-flowing water.
A young man was seen having fun riding on a mini hovercraft on the flood water near Charlwood.
More wet weather was expected as the Advertiser went to press.
