AT AN age when some people are thinking of putting their feet up, plucky 69-year-old Averil Trott took on a 130-mile trek.
The Castle Square, Bletchingley, resident decided to take on the challenge of her lifetime by walking from Winchester to Canterbury.
The pensioner suffers from a condition known as Dupuytrens – a disease that tightens the tendons – which has restricted movement in one hand and stopped her from carrying out her usual pursuits.
So she decided to tackle the walk, to raise money for Bletchingley Church House, which needs £550,000 to renovate the two-storey building just off Bletchingley High Street.
She said: "It worked out at roughly one day a week, sometimes more if I was offered a lift, and in the couple of weeks after I had my second operation I did not walk at all."
Mrs Trott continues to raise money for the charity, and so far has banked £3,713.99.
She added: "This is a vitally important building in the heart of the village that has the potential to be used by many community groups – not just the church."
Mrs Trott added that her justgiving page will keep running until October 8.
