A SURGE in violent crimes in the borough has been blamed on the hot weather this summer.
According to the latest crime statistics revealed by police.uk, the borough also had more incidents of burglary, criminal damage and arson, possession of weapons, public disorder, theft from the person, violence and sexual offences between March 2012 and 2013 than the Surrey average.
Dave Charlesworth, police sergeant for Reigate and Banstead, said: "We have seen an increase in the number of violent crimes in recent months and we think that might be because people are enjoying the warmer weather and are drinking one too many.
"People tend to lose their inhibitions a bit when they have had a few to drink."
Sgt Charlesworth added: "At the moment we are targeting burglary and vehicle crimes, which has seen a rise recently as well. We have increased patrols to continue to crack down on them."
The borough does, however, fall below the Surrey average in bike thefts, drug offences, other thefts, shoplifting and vehicle crime.
The borough was also on par with the average for robbery according to the figures.
But you are more likely to be burgled, or become the victim of criminal damage or vehicle crime, in Tandridge than in any other part of Surrey.
There were 815 burglaries in Tandridge in the year up to March 31 – more than nine a day on average and officers from neighbouring forces have been drafted in to help as a result.
