Police are appealing for information after a burglary on Tuesday at a house in Caterham.
The incident occurred around 12.45pm when two men got in via a patio door at the property on Banstead Road but were disturbed by the occupant.
They fled through neighbouring gardens.
Detective Constable Simon Evans, said: "It must have been extremely frightening for the occupant to return home to find the two intruders in their property but they were able to provide us with a detailed description of those responsible.
"We are still establishing exactly what property was stolen during the break-in but it is believed a quantity of jewellery is missing."
The first offender is white man, slim, in his early 20s, with short light brown hair and slight stubble on his face and wearing a red top.
The second offender wore a full face balaclava.
It is believed that the offenders spoke with a northern accent, possibly of Yorkshire origin.
Officers would also like to trace three white men and a black man seen in the area around the time of the burglary.
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
