A CHARITY concert took an emotional twist at the weekend after being capped off with a surprise marriage proposal.
Hundreds of party-goers crammed onto a field at Littleton Manor Farm in Reigate on Saturday and Sunday for the Party for Patrick music festival.
And the event had already been labelled a massive success before Louise Evans, who set up the festival in memory of her brother, was popped the question.
"Patrick would have loved it," said Louise.
"He would have loved the fact that I was speechless, I was completely lost for words.
"It was the best weekend of my life. Sadly Patrick couldn't be there in person but he was there in spirit."
This is the fifth year of the concert which was set up in memory of Redhill man Patrick Evans who died in February 2009 aged 21 in a skiing accident.
Speaking about the success of the concert, which bettered its 850-person attendance from last year, Louise said all the volunteers who helped to put the event together had been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm they had been shown.
"It's keeping his name alive and it's like a tribute to him.We think we've raised about £10,000 at least but I'm hoping it will be more, it might even be £11,000 which is very impressive for a volunteer-run festival in Surrey."
Describing the highlights, which featured a Saturday night event of acoustic sets for the first time ever, Miss Evans added: "Shane Richie was very entertaining. He led a big conga and he gave a shout out to Patrick so that was great and then we had Emma Stevens who's a very talented singer."
