A FATHER who was left fuming when staff at East Surrey Hospital called the police after he walked out of A&E with his son has received an apology.

As reported previously, Elvis Hames took his son Ronan to the Earlswsood hospital's accident and emergency department on July 10 after an injury the 12-year-old suffered a few weeks beforehand started to bleed again.

But after a two-hour wait the father of three stormed out with his son, saying he had been left frustrated at the way they had been treated.

But he was left even more staggered that night when police officers turned up on his door at 1.30am and told him the hospital had called them because they were concerned for his son's welfare.

Now, after more than a month, bosses at the hospital have issued an apology.

Mr Hames said: "They've said they are very sorry for the way we were treated and it [the letter] does say we were treated incorrectly."

He added: "I'm definitely certain I wouldn't have got the apology unless there was something said about it in the Surrey Mirror. It was the Surrey Mirror that really got them to say sorry."
