THE neighbours of a new Dorking supermarket have received an apology from its owners after a noisy alarm went off repeatedly over the weekend.

Vincent Road residents said the alarm first sounded at the newly-built Lidl store in nearby Vincent Lane during the early hours of Sunday and continued into Monday.

The shop, which has been under construction since March, is set to open today (Thursday).

One resident told the Advertiser: "No representative from Lidl attended the alarm – it just reset and then went off again later. Residents all round the site were disturbed and a number of young families were woken up, with the resultant disruption to their family routines.

"We would have hoped with a brand new store that if an alarm was malfunctioning it would have reported the fault to a central station and a member of staff called out. This is not a very good start prior to their grand opening this week."

Jason Gratton, Lidl's property director for the south of England, said: "I would like to extend my profound apologies to all residents that were disturbed by the alarm issues at the Lidl store on Vincent Lane.

"We have instructed engineers to attend site today to investigate and remedy any faults."
