A PLAYSCHOOL hosted a celebration of its 20th anniversary and the opening of a new outdoor area with a disco.
Peter Pan Playschool, based at Eastwick Road Church Hall in Bookham, celebrated with a party for current and former pupils.
Everyone then sang Happy Birthday while supervisor Paula Tearall and staff members Gemma Jarman and Laura Middleton blew out the candles on a birthday cake.
Melissa Caws, mother of pupils Holly, five, and Erin, three, said: "The disco was a great way to celebrate 20 years of Peter Pan Playschool.
"It had all the elements of a special celebration with dancing, bubbles, cake, music, disco lights and, of course, balloons.
"Children and parents alike had a great time. Here's to another 20 years."
Carol Barwick, mother of James, six, and Alice, four, said: "Staff, children and friends all got together to celebrate this special occasion and we felt very privileged to be involved in such a fantastic event.
"My daughter had a brilliant time at the disco. It was the perfect way to celebrate 20 successful years."
The event, on December 6, also marked the completion, this month, of the playschool's garden improvement project following a £9,000, year-long fundraising drive.
The money has been used to lay artificial grass, and create raised beds, borders, a pathway and a nature corner. Staff have thanked Waitrose Cobham for donating £3,000 and county councillor Clare Curran, who donated £2,500 of her members' allocation.
They also thanked Chris Edge Tree Care for doing all the landscaping work in the garden for no labour charge.
Joint deputy supervisor Lydia Adams said: "The improvements to the garden have hugely enhanced the play and learning opportunities available to the children in our care.
"Despite the cold weather, children and staff have been having great fun outdoors.
"The new grass has proved perfect for scooter races, penalty shoot-outs, and taking the dolls out for walks in the prams.
"The children are hugely looking forward to the arrival of spring, when we will plant and grow our own fruit and vegetables."
