EVERY pupil at a Bookham primary school has developed new talents by producing a piece of communal art thanks to a donation from a village group.
Children aged between four and 11 studying at The Dawnay School created a wall hanging inspired by books in the school's library using batik, a method of decorating cloth with wax and dye.
Art teacher Barbara Bradshaw told the Advertiser: "We had recently had our library refurbished so decided that our next whole school art project would be to create a wall hanging to reflect the diversity of our library collection.
"We decided to explore the skill of batik to create an illustration of a traditional tale from round the world."
The finished piece was funded by a grant from the Bookham Decorative and Fine Arts Society.
Mrs Bradshaw added: "Each class chose a story and then every child had the opportunity to experiment with the technique on small pieces of cotton.
"They came together and decided on which images to use to create a whole class panel, which were then all sewn together."
