"DIG deep to help a young boy with an incurable disease."

That is the heartfelt message from fundraisers supporting Hurst Primary School pupil George Akehurst, five, who lives in Memorial Close, Oxted.

Little George suffers from neurofibromatosis – a genetic condition that causes multiple tumours to develop in nerve tissue.

His family have relied on the help of The Neuro Foundation. Mum Elaine Somerville said: "I do not know what we would have done without them. The foundation is funded by the public and we urgently need to raise money."

Businesses have rallied together to show their support, including One Stop in Hurst Green and Costcutter in Lingfield.

"Everybody knows George," added Elaine. "He is chatty and gets on with everyone. It is a little scary and he has struggled with it for quite some time now. He is a brave little boy."

Elaine and eight other family members and friends are donning their walking boots to tackle a 9.6-mile walk from Oxted to Sevenoaks for the charity.

To sponsor them, text GEOR49 followed by the amount you wish to donate (either £2, £5 or £10) to 70070, pop into any of the stores mentioned above, or visit www.justgiving.com/george123
