WINTER arrived in Mole Valley last week with a bitter cold snap and season's first snowfall.
Many parts of the district got a "dusting" of snow on December 5 – and forecasters say the conditions are right for a white Christmas. Bookmaker William Hill has cuts the odds of Snow on Christmas Day to 4/1, and the Advertiser's weather man Ian Currie believes snow could fall on the 25th.
"There are increasing signs it could turn very cold indeed with a very cold north-easterly wind," said Mr Currie, who is in the process of calculating his predictions for this winter.
"I think if a north-easterly materialises at the end of this week it could be very difficult to shift, so that could increase the chances of a white Christmas."
Mr Currie added that some of the area's coldest winters were preceded by average temperatures in autumn – and this year's autumn was very close to the average, he said.
