CROPS cultivated by green-fingered pupils are set to appear for sale on the shelves of a major supermarket.
Youngsters at Banstead Community Junior School are currently nurturing lettuce, beetroot, sweet peppers, courgettes, peas, and mangetout, which will appear for sale in the town's Waitrose store.
The crops, planted at the end of April, are growing in a greenhouse, the walls of which were created with hundreds of plastic bottles collected by children and parents.
Teaching assistant at The Horseshoe school, Janine Harrison, said: "The children are absolutely loving it.
"They are spending their lunchtimes making sure everything is watered."
Pupils are sending progress reports to Waitrose as their produce grows. Dominie Carr, Waitrose branch forum representative said: "The greenhouse looks wonderful. I look forward to the next update."
When the produce is ready for sale, the school will be given a share of the profits.
