SEVERAL primary schools in the borough will be extended over the summer holidays to accommodate growing numbers of children.
Plans have been submitted to erect two classrooms and a toilet in a modular block at Earlswood Infant School.
This will be the third year in a row that the St John's Road school has taken an extra year group, and the expansion will mean it will be permanently able to take four classes in each year.
Head teacher Geraldine Tidy said: "I think people just want to be able to send their children to a local school and hopefully we have done what we can to enable families to do that."
She said the higher intake would not put extra strain on existing school facilities, adding: "We have been lucky enough to use existing space in the previous couple of years, so this year we need to expand.
"We don't foresee any issues at all. We have plans to make sure we are not losing any space."
Although plans for the building were only lodged with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council last week, she said the work would take place over the summer holidays in time for the September term.
It will be a similar picture at Meath Green Infant School in Horley, which is also increasing its intake from September.
Head teacher Tim Rogers said: "As a school, we are delighted to have been asked by Surrey to take an additional 20 children this year.
"This will allow us to have three Reception classes from September and will remove our existing mixed Reception and year 1 class."
Two new modular classrooms will become home to the school's year 2 children.
Mr Rogers added: "The preparation and arrangements for the delivery and installation of these classrooms is well under way and will take place over the summer holidays.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for us to offer more families in the local area the high quality teaching and learning that we provide."
A demountable was built at Holmesdale Community Primary School in Alma Road, Reigate, last year when it took in extra pupils, a process that is being repeated this September when it again takes a "bulge" year.
Woodmansterne Primary School has also submitted plans to Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to build a three-classroom demountable block. But the new facilities will replace outdated ones, and will not lead to increased pupil numbers at the Carshalton Road school.
