Reigate man makes pizza fly

IS it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a deep pan meat feast.

Forget the moped, a pizza can now be delivered by air, according to a video that has gone viral on the internet.

More than a million people have watched the one-minute film showing a Domino's pizza box, carried by a remote-controlled drone, being flown from Redhill into the arms of a waiting customer in deepest Dorking.

Created by Dean Wynton, of Reigate, the "domicopter", with stuffed crust on board, is thrust into the air from Mr Wynton's base at Redhill Aerodrome before topping the fields around Woodhatch and pepper-zoning in on Tower Hill, Dorking, 13 miles later.

It's a high point for Mr Wynton, whose business, Aerosight, has really taken off since it was formed less than two years ago.

He has filmed all over the world for TV and film, and now the pizza video has made him a big cheese across the pond, where a string of news outlets and the hit Jay Leno Show have wanted a slice of his creation.

"It is really good. It has really gone big in the States," said Mr Wynton, 34. "I had over 1,500 hits on my website in the first day, the majority from the US."

The video was created after Domino's approached Mr Wynton, asking for help with the advertising gimmick.

But pizza is just small fry when it comes to Mr Wynton's sights.

"You can make anything fly, he said. "Pizza now – maybe beer next."

"The people of Reigate are probably used to seeing strange objects flying through the air, like a flying man," he added.

"Anything can be made to fly, if the money is there to do it."

Mr Wynton's focus to date has been on filming projects, rather than aerial transportation. He has worked on programmes such as Channel 4's Grand Designs and films including the Alan Partridge Movie, out on August 7, creating unique shots that can only be achieved with the 7kg craft.

"This year things have really kicked off," he said. "In the first year there was interest but people didn't understand what we could do with it – when they saw what was possible, they were gobsmacked."

He's politely turning down calls from local takeaways requesting his services as a delivery man.
