GLANCING at this scene of a couple walking over a pristine white bridge, you might be forgiven for thinking you were looking into another era.
But this is the new Five Arch Bridge at Painshill Park which has been designed to replicate the original structure created by the park's designer Charles Hamilton in the 1760s.
The bridge remained in its place over the water until the early 20th century before falling into disrepair, but has now been rebuilt out of white concrete using historical drawings.
During the official opening last month, two of the park's volunteers commemorated the bridge's reappearance by dressing up as Mr Hamilton and his wife and taking in the views of Painshill from the bridge.
Michael Gove, chief executive officer of Painshill Park Trust, said: "We are very grateful to the Monument Trust for funding the rebuild of this important folly.
"Its presence is integral to the completed restoration of the 18th century landscape garden and to the recreation of Hamilton's scenes which continually change and surprise you."
